Destination Imagination of
Sacred Hearts School

ABOUT US

History:
Through the effort and enthusiasm of Mrs. Driscoll, the first two Destination Imagination teams at Sacred Hearts formed in the 2005-2006 Academic year. These eleven 4th graders are depicted on the home page. Even though they started late in the season (December), they had outstanding performances at the regional competition held at Triton High School in Byfield. Their successful year spawned an overwhelming student interest in this past season (2006-2007). We were all extremely proud to have "5" teams representing Sacred Hearts School in the Elementary and Middle School levels. To give a little perspective, a total of 44 teams from 16 Elementary Schools and 15 teams from 9 Middle Schools competed in Byfield. This averages to about 2.3 teams/school, so Sacred Hearts (one of the smallest schools to compete) definitely made a grand showing. We hope next year will be even bigger!

What is D.I.?:
To answer that, here's a little blurb from the National D.I. Mission Statement.....
Destination ImagiNation, Inc. seeks to be the world’s foremost non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting three critical life skills among learners at all levels: Creativity, Teamwork, and Problem-Solving. These three life skills form the core of our organization’s value system.

What do we do in D.I.?:
D.I. teams choose a "Main Challenge" at the beginning of the year. These challenges usually have a central focus in either Architecture, Engineering/Math, Science/Physics, History/Geography/Social Studies or Performing Arts/Story Telling. All categories require research, prop design and performance in some manner, but most importantly, they require teamwork and problem solving among the children WITHOUT any outside suggestions/interference from friends, relatives, teachers or even team leaders.
